Top Ten Tuesday: Fall TBR

http://www.brokeandbookish.com/
As always, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Happy First Day of Fall!
(Or, um, Spring, if you live in the Southern Hemisphere.)
Today's topic is Top Ten Books on my Fall TBR list. There are SO MANY books I want to read this Fall, so it was extraordinarily hard narrowing it down to ten.

Anyway, here goes (covers link to Goodreads):

1. The Space Trilogy by C. S. Lewis.
25350 100924 100933
The Dead Writers' Society on Goodreads is doing a readalong of these books, and it's going on now! I'm in the middle of Hunchback, so I can't exactly join in for Out of the Silent Planet (which is what is scheduled for September), but I might hop in next month for Perelandrea and That Hideous Strength

2. The rest of Chretien de Troyes's Arthurian Romances
1134313
I read two of them for my Arthurian Lit class last spring, but I'm going to finish them off for the Arthurian Lit Challenge that I'm doing this year!

3. The Once and Future King by T. H. White.
43545
Again, for the Arthurian Lit Challenge. Numerous people have recommended this book, so I'm excited to finally read it!

4. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10210.Jane_Eyre
This one deserves a reread (for the second time), because I'm going to go see Lifeline Theatre perform it this fall. If you don't know, I ADORE LIFELINE.

5. Maze Runner by James Dashner.
6186357
Why? Because hype.

6. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas.
13519397
Everyone is raving about these books and I desperately want to see why!

7. The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke.
113304
My friend said this book had Venice in it. VENICE I NEED IT

8. The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey.
17235026
First, Maggie Stiefvater recommended it.
Then Cait (from the Notebook Sisters) recommended (flailed about) it.
This book is on my list today for VERY GOOD REASONS.

9. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
157993
Because I've needed a reread of this charming thing for a very long time.

10. 1984 by George Orwell.
5470
Somehow I never get around to reading this book. I must.

So there you have it! What books are you looking forward to reading this Fall?

  1. Jane Eyre is on my list too, but I will be reading it for the first time! Throne of glass is great, I think you'll really enjoy the series because the characters are amazing.
    Great list!

    1. Jane is one of my favorite heroines in all of literature. She is such a role model for all women.

I've been wanting some excellent epic fantasy for some time, and I think Throne of Glass might satisfy that!

  2. Oh, yay! You are going to read 1984. One of my favorites.

Also I finished the Arthurian Romances earlier this year and enjoyed them very much.

    1. I read Animal Farm when I was 13-ish years old, and loved it, but for some reason never got around to 1984. I'm really looking forward to it!

And yes, the Arthurian Romances that I've read so far are fantastic. I can't wait to finish them.

  3. That is a really fun list. I have the Girl with all the Gifts from the library and I am dying to start it. Throne of Glass is very good!

I love the Little Prince! I think I am going to have to pull that out to read soon.

    1. I have heard SUCH good things about Girl with all the Gifts, and Throne of Glass too! I really hope I can get to them both this Fall.

Once I tried rereading The Little Prince in its original French. It rather failed. I think this reread will have to be in English :-)

  4. I never get around to reading 1984 either. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Jane Eyre. And it's been so long since I visited her. I must plan a re-read for sometime soon!

    Great list, Sophia!

    1. Jane Eyre is the best! Have you ever read The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde? It's more contemporary but awesome and bookish and clever and un-genre-able, and I think anyone who loves Jane Eyre will love that book. Try it out! Fforde is a fantastic writer, and one of my favorites.

    2. I'll put it on my TBR list. I'm always afraid to read books that are spin-offs of classics, but if you endorse it, I'll give it a try!

    3. It's not really a spin-off. It involves the Jane Eyre book, and gently reflects it in the storyline, but otherwise...

  5. I'm reading Perelandra right now... it's not as easy of a read as "Out of the Silent Planet" and neither are as easy as the Chronicles of Narnia... however, they might have deeper theology and philosophy to them. :)

    1. Oh just wait until you get to That Hideous Strength! That's some intense writing and deep meanings right there. :/
And all three books have an overload of theological and philosophical meanings. I'd say Perelandra's is the most obvious, though.

  6. You have some good books on your list! I really liked Jane Eyre and 1984 -- they're probably my two favorite books I read in school! The Maze Runner series was pretty good -- not the best of the YA dystopias I've read but not bad. We saw the movie over the weekend at it was decent. The Girl With All the Gifts made my list too. It sounds intriguing!

  7. Oh yes yes yes you need to read The Girl With All the Gifts. (I totally have a post like with all these gifs that I need to put up...but then....I get distracted. IT HAPPENS.) And you also NEED Throne of Glass in your life. Even if #1 doesn't really float your boat, #2 is even BETTER. Totally is. Don't doubt me. Go read it. Oh and I also love The Maze Runner. I put off reading it for years and now? Totally one of my new favourite books.

    1. I read your review of The Girl With All the Gifts on Goodreads, but it had a severe lack of gifs. I wait with anticipation for the bloggy version!

OKAY OKAY I will read both TOG and Maze Runner. I PROMISE

  8. I absolutely love the variety on this list! I read Yvain from the arthurian romances in my medieval French lit class last year and have been meaning to read the rest ever since.. I love the Little Prince too. What a fab selection :D

    1. Why thank you! Yes, I do read a humungous variety of books. All they need are well-rounded characters and a decent plot, and I'm happy!
Yvain was one of the ones I read (I think the other was Lancelot). It was really interesting because I had read the Celtic version of the same story in the Mabinogion, so I was able to compare the two.
